Trainers Can't Motivate You - Only Educate You!
I arrived at my studio this morning and looked at my schedule. How about this for a great day? Wendi West, Dawn Butterfield, Jen Tedford-Zuba and Toneka Pires as well as newest sensation Rhianna DaCruz.
It is so funny, as a coach, to hear these successful superstars talk about how they are having issues getting motivated during the last few weeks before FAP Nationals. Like all of us, they too, have other things going on in their lives- husbands, careers, relationships, house buying, school etc. I guess it really shows how much we all have in common. Whether you have won or placed in many shows. or if you are going to FAP Nationals for the first time, I think you can all admit that you are a bit nervous!
After a killer session with all these talented ladies, and a good heart to heart chat, everyone was pumped to kick butt during these last few weeks! All it takes is a reminder of how much fun this really is! It was so wonderful to see everyone so excited to work hard and focus together! Girls always ask me how is it that my clients do so well consistently, and really, the answer is we don't take it too seriously! What a pressure release once you think about why you are doing this! I guess we all need a reminder every now and then! Perhaps that is why the Red Sox are doing so well…they simply love to play-plain and simple!
I have a feeling that many of you out there feel the same way! For the next few weeks, set your sight on your goal. Are you going to nationals for the first time? Well, your focus should be to just HAVE FUN! Going to FAP Nationals and competing with the best athletes in the World is an incredible accomplishment so if you are a newbie, its all about fun and making memories! If you have been to nationals before, you are now thinking that you want to do better than last year. Well, this is a realistic goal but make sure its your best and not some score you are looking for. Try to improve YOUR performance and forget about trying to beat an individual.
Quite often, I hear girls say, my goal is to make Top 5, or Top 10. Well, I can understand this way of thinking but are you going to let a judge determine your goal? Of course not!! Remember why you are doing this and why you are traveling all the way out to California ! The goal is always the same-Have fun while challenging yourself. The rest will take care of itself. As I always say, there is a big difference from being THE BEST and being YOUR BEST. If your goal is to do "your" best, then you can never be disappointed!
Camp is coming up~! January 29 th -30 th in Boston ! I hope to see many of you there for a "WICKED" (as we say in Beantown) good time!
